What to Expect

Group sacred mushroom ceremonies are bilingual, in Spanish and English. To ensure a safe and intimate experience, groups are limited to 10 participants. Please check the calendar below for a date that works for you.

My sacred mushroom ceremonies honor the indigenous Mazatec tradition and are curated with intention and love. The Mazatec revere mushrooms, which they call Los Niños Santos ("The Little Saint Children") as loving, energetic beings with divine healing power. This ceremonial experience is designed for those seeking sincere healing, not recreational use.

Prior to your ceremony day, you are invited to join a group preparation call. We’ll introduce ourselves and I’ll answer questions and provide information to make your journey as enriching as possible. FAQs are below.

Please schedule a call if you’re interested in a one-on-one ceremony.

Welcome

We open the ceremony with a cleansing ritual, prayer, and the setting of intentions.

01

Medicine

The mushroom medicine is distributed (about 2 grams per person). It takes about 30 to 60 minutes to experience its effects.

02

Journey

The healing journey lasts about 3.5 hours. You will bring a pillow, blanket and mat for your comfort. I will guide your journey, but this is an individual experience and will be different for every person. You are always in control. Think of it as a deep meditation. You will be guided into your journey with a carefully curated playlist and my singing.

03

Closing

After the journey, we have time to rest. We’ll share insights over a nourishing, homemade vegetarian meal before going home.

04

Integration

One week after the ceremony, we’ll meet on Zoom as a group to share our post-journey thoughts and insights.

If you’d like more time to process your experience with me, I recommend a one-on-one integration session.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Ceremony

  • Psilocybin is a naturally-occurring psychedelic found in certain types of mushrooms. When psilocybin is ingested, it’s converted in the body to psilocin, which is the chemical that creates a psychedelic experience or altered state of consciousness. The mushrooms used in my ceremonies contain psilocybin.

  • My ceremonies are rooted in the Mazatec tradition, which emphasizes integrity and heart in healing. Niños Santos (“Holy Children” or “Little Saint Children”) is what Mazatec healers call “magic mushrooms.” The Mazatec, an Indigenous people of Oaxaca, Mexico, view Niños Santos as living entities with divine healing power.

Without the Mazatec’s resilience and knowledge of mushrooms for healing, I would not be able to do this work. To honor the Mazatec people's contribution to psilocybin healing traditions, 10% of all ceremony proceeds are donated to Historias y Memorias Mazatecas (HMM), an organization dedicated to preserving Mazatec cultural heritage and artifacts.

  • The effects of psilocybin are highly variable and depend on your mindset and the environment, but generally within an hour of ingestion, you’ll begin to experience shifts in consciousness, perception, and perhaps mood. Psychedelic journeys typically last between 4-6 hours and can shift throughout the experience. Some people experience some nausea, which can be alleviated with breathing and movement.

During your journey, you may experience visions, release stored emotions, access lost memories, and gain deeper insights into your life and relationships. It can be an overwhelming experience, which is why I’m there to help guide you before, during and after the ceremony.

Psilocybin is not known to be physically addictive.

  • Research indicates that psilocybin can induce neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to change and reorganize thought patterns, enabling people to find new ways to process anxiety, depression or deeply embedded trauma. It can also be effective for more spiritual explorations.

Potential immediate and long-lasting benefits of psilocybin:

    • Reduced negative mood and increased positive mood

    • Increased feelings of tolerance, understanding and empathy

    • Getting unstuck; release of fears that allow you to take a big leap or identify the next step toward transformation or achieving the next level

    • Accelerated emotional/psychological healing

    • Happier mood because of the release of past stories and new compassion for people who you may feel have wronged you

    • More compassion for self and self-love

    • More alignment with your purpose

  • In clinical studies, psilocybin has been shown to be high benefit and low risk. It’s generally safe and well-tolerated. It’s not known to be physically addictive and overdosing is nearly impossible.

So-called “bad trips” are usually the result of an uncontrolled environment, mixing with alcohol and/or other drugs, or taking too much recreationally without intention.

Possible physical side effects include nausea, vomiting, disorientation, and headaches. I will be there to guide you through any possible negative side effects.

You will be in control during the ceremony. Think of it as a deep meditation. If you open your eyes, you are here in the here and now. If you close your eyes, you can go back into your journey.

  • Mushroom ceremonies are not for you, if you:

    • Are looking for a recreational experience

    • Are processing extreme grief

    • Are on antibiotics

    • Are on lithium medication

    • Have a personal or family history of bipolar, schizophrenia, or other personality disorders

The Basics

  • I start with a free 30-minute fit call. I want to make sure you’re interested in establishing a relationship with mushrooms beyond recreational use. If it’s a good fit, I’ll invite you to sign up for an upcoming ceremony

  • Absolutely! It can be meaningful to experience a journey with friends and partners. If you have a group of friends who would like to participate in a ceremony together, I can also guide ceremonies at private residences.

  • The cost of each ceremony depends on the venue. I try to make my prices as accessible as possible.

A single mushroom ceremony can often provide emotional and psychological healing that surpasses years of conventional therapy.

Included in the 6-hour single day ceremonial retreat:

    • Group pre-ceremony Zoom call to meet each other

    • A dose of sacred mushrooms (typically 2 grams)

    • Mushroom medicine ceremony (cleanse, sacred mushrooms, meditation, guided healing journey)

    • Vegetarian meal provided after the healing journey

    • Post-ceremony integration zoom call one week after the ceremony

To honor the Mazatec people's contribution to psilocybin healing traditions, 10% of all ceremony proceeds are donated to Historias y Memorias Mazatecas (HMM), an organization dedicated to preserving Mazatec cultural heritage and artifacts.

  • For your comfort and for the medicine to work best, please follow these recommendations for the 4 to 5 days before/after the ceremony:

    • Clean diet leading up to the ceremony. Specifically no black beans and no meat (especially pork, beef, chicken)

    • No alcohol, drugs or other medicinal plants as a way to show respect to the medicine and purify the body and soul

    • No sex with others or yourself

    • Do not participate in gossip or anger and try to maintain clean mental hygiene

  • The day of the ceremony, the body must be clean inside and out.

    • Steam shower in the morning

    • A ceremony is a very sacred ritual so one should dress with clean clothes and with intent

    • Light breakfast or fasting the day of the ceremony. The lightness resulting from fasting makes it easier for  the medicine to work in your body. If you do have breakfast that morning, no eggs or milk. (eggs are considered sacred, and milk cuts the effect of the mushroom) a small cup of coffee is ok.

  • Please approach the ceremony with humility and respect, but without fear, as you need to surrender and relax. Being nervous is completely normal.

    • Clean, comfortable and white clothes (if you don’t have anything white, please wear a light color. But dressing with intention is most important thing). An extra pair of socks as some people feel cold with the initial effects of the medicine

    • Yoga mat

    • Blanket and pillow so that you can lay down comfortably

    • An eye mask if that helps you focus and be less distracted

  • The full ceremony is 6 hours. The journey lasts about 3.5 hours.

We will open the ceremony with a cleansing ritual, prayer and intention. Each participant receives 2g. The mushrooms are locally-sourced, and we commune with one strain. It takes about 30 to 60 minutes to feel the effects of the medicine.

There is an option to take about .5g more once the journey has begun (2nd round). It is advised that you listen to your own body and needs before deciding to take more. Typically 2g is sufficient. More medicine does not necessarily mean a deeper process.

Your preparation, intent, ability to surrender, and respect for the ceremony has a greater effect than the dosage.

We will have time to rest, share any insights and share a meal at the end before driving home.

*Please let me know if you would prefer to take a smaller dose. We also do a 2nd round where you can take 2 or 4 more mushrooms.

  • You will commune with the mushrooms whole.

  • Yes. I provide a nourishing, vegetarian homemade meal after every ceremony.

  • My ceremonies are curated with intention, love and safety in mind. To maintain an intimate, safe and immersive experience, my ceremonies are limited to 6 to 12 participants. Most of my ceremonies are bilingual—English and Spanish.

  • Yes. Please schedule a call with me to discuss it further.

“Alexis holds space in such a beautiful and authentic way. I’m super sensitive to others’ energy, so it made me nervous to do my healing with others present, but working with Alexis was awesome. Los Niños Santos had many messages for me about healing my lineage and my own traumas and I was able to connect with and work with ancestors and spirit guides to really move things forward. I felt safe and held in a beautiful community of other mostly latina or Bipoc women. It was a beautiful experience that I'd definitely recommend to others.”

— Emelina

“I had a beautiful heart-opening experience during this ceremony. It was my first experience with mushrooms and I was afraid of having a ‘bad trip,’ but Alexis puts great care and intent into the ceremonies and it is felt in the experience. She does an amazing job at creating a sacred and safe space for all guests. I highly recommend attending a future ceremony!”

Giving Back

To honor the Mazatec's contribution to our understanding of psilocybin as medicine, I donate 10% of ceremony proceeds to support Historias y Memorias Mazatecas (HMM)

I make the donation BEFORE each ceremony to set an intention of honoring the Mazatec tradition, knowledge and community. By participating in my mushroom ceremonies, you're not only immersing yourself in a day of healing and cultural expansion, but also actively contributing to the preservation of Mazatec culture and honoring sacred indigenous reciprocity.

The Mazatec, an indigenous people of Oaxaca, Mexico, call psilocybin mushrooms "Niños Santos" (Holy Children) and view them as divine healing entities. Historias y Memorias Mazatecas (HMM) is dedicated to the preservation of cultural artifacts and helps counteract the adverse effects of exploitation, commercialization, and other challenges faced by the Mazatec community. Thank you for helping to preserve the important cultural heritage of the Mazatec.
